OS Multicomputer Hardware

The basic node of any multicomputer consists of the following:

  • Central Processing unit
  • Memory
  • Network interface
  • Hard Disk

Basically, the node of a multicomputer may be packaged in a standard personal computer case, but the following are nearly always absent:

  • Monitor
  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • Graphics Adapter

Sometime instead of a single central processing unit, personal computer contains a two-way or four-way multiprocessor board, but for simplicity purpose, we will assume that each node has only one central processing unit.

Sometime, hundreds or thousands of nodes are hooked together to form a multicomputer.
